Be aware of your race times.  Have your crew take a short jog one hour before your launch time.  Listen to the announcer for the first call of your race.  Be aware of how many crews are in your race and what your bow number is.  If your bow number is high in a race of 40 crews, you will not want to have your shell ready at first call.  So don’t have your crew warm up too early if they're going to wait and stand around before its your bow numbers turn to launch.

It is important to keep your commands the same as in practice.  Rowing is a routine sport.  Off the water this is especially important in keeping the rowers and shells safe.

When it’s time for you to launch, make sure crew members not rowing are carrying your crew’s oars and someone has the shoe box.  The oars should be carried two at a time to prevent scratches.  When returning to the dock, these crew members will return the rowers shoe’s and take their oars.

This help allows your crew to be quicker dock time.  Dock time is the time it takes the crew to get off the dock when launching or returning.  Regatta events give time penalties added onto your race time if you spend too much time on the dock, usually two minutes.

The reason for these time penalties is to prevent the regatta from getting behind in schedule.  Though often times regatta's are behind.

This is an improper way to carry oars.  Make sure there is enough crew members to carry two oars each.
